I’ve grown canna ‘Black Knight’ for many years in the flower bed that runs between my picket fence and the city sidewalk. While I often experiment with other plants in this border, ‘Black Knight’ has found a permanent home there. The plant’s large, leathery foliage is an excellent backdrop for other more delicate plumes, leaves and flowers. I love the textural contrast created when this canna is combined with purple fountain grass or miscanthus ‘Morning Light’. And its deep reddish-black leaves interplay dramatically with pink, lavender or blue flowers.
