Hot And Spicy Tomato Sauce

I love to spice up old recipes with new flavors, and this spicy tomato sauce recipe fits the bill. The secret ingredient? Hot and Spicy oregano. It’s a new offering from Bonnie Plants and it’s got some kick to it. Grow it with your Roma tomatoes so you can whip up a batch of this sauce for pasta or pizza.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup hot and spicy oregano, chopped
- 1 cup onion, diced
- 4 cloves garlic, chopped
- 2 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
- 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped
- salt to taste
- 2 lbs. roma tomatoes, crushed
Instructions
Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the onion in the oil until translucent (about 10 minutes). Add the garlic and cook another 2 to 3 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes. Simmer gently, uncovered, until sauce thickens, breaking up tomatoes with spoon and stirring occasionally, about 1 hour. During the last 10 minutes add the fresh oregano and basil. Season sauce to taste with salt and pepper.
