Cabbage And Apples

Cabbage And Apples

Cabbage isn't recognized as the most glamorous vegetable around, but it can be tasty and it certainly is good for us. Cooked cabbage has always been popular with my family, particularly when it is in season.

Here is a simple recipe that doesn't take long to prepare. What I like about it is that it combines nicely the tartness of the apples and vinegar with the sweetness of the sugar, making it the perfect complement for beef, pork, or even a vegetarian meal.

Start by coring and cutting the cabbage into thin slices and place it in a large pot. To this add about 1/2 cup of water, 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar, about 2 to 3 tablespoons of brown sugar. Bring all of this to a boil over medium heat.

For a little extra flavor, add to the cabbage the peeled and diced apples. Cover and simmer for about 20 minutes.

Of course you want add some salt, about a teaspoon is all you'll need or just suit your taste.

Time to prepare: 35 minutes.

This recipe is vegetarian.
